HORSESHOE COVE SHIPWRIGHTS

"SLIPSTREAM "

Slipsteam was built by us in 1992 to test keels for the "Spirit of Australia" challenge for the Americas cup. She was designed by Ian Murray and Associates.

She was built from strip planked cedar with fibreglass inside and out and a foam cored deck. She is 50 feet long and 9 feet draught.

The keels were two foils made of carbon fibre with a lead "torpedo" between them for ballast. The aft foil incorporated the rudder, as seen in this photo.
